Members / committees

In our congregational structure at The Congregation Church of Plympton, MA, members have the opportunity to participate in the work and ministry of the church as members of the committees of the church. Committees include:

Standing Committee
Deacons
Missions & Stewardship
Christian Education
Music Committee
Advisory Board
Ladies Sewing Circle
Pastoral Relations
Moderator

^^ The Standing Committee provides overall financial leadership for the work and ministry of the congregation. The Committee is responsible for the upkeep of the building, the rental of space in the building, preparing the annual budget. This committee is very involved in the day to day well-being of the church, making sure the grounds and properties are in good order.

^^ The Deacons work with the Pastor to help meet the Spiritual needs of the congregation including helping in the sacramental life of the church, assisting the pastor at baptisms, as well as preparing and serving communion.

^^ The Missions & Stewardship Committee seeks ways to make our faith active in the community and the world. Through the work of the committee our church has been able to help a number of local groups, including local food pantries & Mainspring House. The Missions Committee also informs the congregation of special offerings of our denomination including One Great Hour Sharing which provides funds and resources to help people around the world recover from natural disasters. The Stewardship Committee supervises the Faith Promise, our annual pledge program.

^^ The Christian Education Committee oversees the educational ministry of the church. They recruit teachers and select curriculum. Annual events for the children include a Christmas Pagent, Easter Egg Hunt, Family Game nights, Vacation Bible School during the summer and Children's Sunday.

^^ The Music Committee oversees all aspects of music in the church. Their responsibility is varied – including selecting and advocating for the director of music, choosing music for the services and planning special music events.

^^ The Advisory Board is comprised of the chairpersons of all committees.

^^ The Ladies Sewing Circle - Contrary to its name, Ladies Sewing Circle seldom if ever sews. They are a source of fellowship for women in the church and accomplish much good in activities such as fundraising and connecting with other women. One of the biggest projects during the year is the Old Countree-Fair. The Sewing Circle also graciously provides collations for important occasions in the church such as weddings, memorial services and other gatherings.

^^ The Pastoral Relations Committee - This is a committee that seeks to support and maintain an open and healthy relationship between the pastor and members of the congregation. The committee serves as a support for the pastor and shares the ideas, dreams, hopes and expectations of the congregation with the pastor.

^^ The Moderator, Sue Ferguson- The Moderator presides over annual meeting and is the Chairperson of the Advisory Board. In cases where decisions need to be made involving various boards of the church, the moderator presides at the meeting and helps the committees to reach decisions that are mutually beneficial for the life of the church.
